When will Jesus return on earth?

Will there be a 2nd coming of Jesus?

First & foremost for us to determine is, “ will there really be…?

Notice the following verses;

In John 14:3, Jesus says, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, you may be also.”

In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, he states, “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with s the trumpet of God… And so we will always be with the Lord.”

Revelation 1:7 proclaims, “Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him…” and Revelation 22:7 adds, “Behold, I am coming soon.

Acts 1:11 is unambiguous: “This same Jesus…will come back in the same way you have seen Him go…”.

Jesus Christ promised that he will return on earth ; and undoubtedly, he will fulfill this promise.

Having established Jesus’ plan & promise to return on earth, it then begs the next question:

When will be the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ?

Many were bold enough to predict/interpret when his return to earth, hazard a guess, but to their peril; their motive to “enlighten or guide maybe well-meaning, but still a distraction to the truth.

As an example, what comes to mind is the prediction of a well/known and respected evangelist, Herbert W. Armstrong, head of the Worldwide Church of God, based in Pasadena, CA, who published a book titled “1975 in Prophecy

The book was well written with biblical bases. It was so convincing that a friend of mine, member of the church, who was already in his senior year in medical school, had to quit finishing medical school; he was in a dilemma because, he reasoned, what for is graduating as a physician, if in fact the return of Jesus is to be in 1975?

I met him in New York sometime after 1975, and he was very disappointed with that church teaching. Takeaway lesson for leaders in any church authority is to refrain from pre-empting God’s prophecy.

Instead, stick to what the Bible says; most especially the timing. Even Jesus’ words should make everyone humble in predicting exact timing, as in;

English Standard Version
“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only”

However, as promised also, God will not leave us in the dark and has advised us to watch events, as in:

Matthew 24:42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.

God gave us a sequence of events i.e., a succession of kingdoms/human governments to be fulfilled first, before his return , as in

Daniel 2

The Dream and Its Interpretation: Daniel was brought before Nebuchadnezzar and credited God with the revelation, emphasizing that no human wisdom could unveil such mysteries. He recounted the dream: a great statue with a head of gold, chest and arms of silver, belly and thighs of bronze, legs of iron, and feet partly of iron and partly of clay. A stone, not cut by human hands, struck the statue on its feet, causing the entire structure to crumble and be swept away, while the stone became a great mountain filling the whole earth (Daniel 2:31-35).

Daniel explained that the statue represented a succession of kingdoms. The head of gold symbolized Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylonian empire, a kingdom of great power and glory. The subsequent parts of the statue represented future kingdoms: the Medo-Persian Empire (silver), the Greek Empire (bronze), and the Roman Empire (legs of iron). And out of that kingdom(resurrected after the fall of Roman Empire) symbolized as the feet of iron and clay indicated a divided new kingdom, partly strong and partly brittle. The stone (from nowhere) represented a divine kingdom established by God, which would crush all these earthly kingdoms and endure forever (Daniel 2:36-45).

So, here God, through Daniel, instructed Nebuchadnezzar and all the way to us, at the present time, to watch these global developments. What did the dustheap of history tell us?

Indeed, the Babylonian empire was succeeded by Medo-Persian Empire of Cyrus, then followed by Greco-Macedonian empire of Alexander the Great; then followed by the Roman Empire that divided into 2 divisions of East and West; legs of iron. The downfall of the Roman Empire has been established and re-emerged, as prophesied in Revelations.

This time, we should now be watching/looking for 2 feet with 10 toes, “conglomerate of 10 countries”, composed of “weak/clay” countries with backing of “iron/strong” countries, and that 3/10 will be replaced by the “little horn” to become the 8th head of this upcoming new government/kingdom.

Notice:

Revelations 13”Then I saw a beast rising up out of the sea. It had seven heads and ten horns, with ten crowns on its horns. And written on each head were names that blasphemed God.”

“I considered the horns, and behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. And behold, this horn had eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth that spoke words of great boastfulness.”

Paul also indicated this in: 2 Thessalonians 2:3

King James Bible
“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.”; otherwise takes on the function of the “little horn”.

Context of Daniel’s Vision

• Daniel receives a night-vision of four beasts, each representing successive world empires (7:1-7).

• The “fourth beast” is unlike the others—terrifying, iron-toothed, ten-horned, pointing prophetically to a final phase of Gentile dominion.

• Out of those ten horns, “another horn, a little one,” rises and supplants three, signaling a new, blasphemous power exerting dominion in the last days.

Identifying the Little Horn by

• A literal, future ruler who will emerge from the geopolitical remnants of the fourth beast—often linked with the coming Antichrist (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4Revelation 13:1-7).

• Prefigured historically by Antiochus IV Epiphanes (cf. Daniel 8), yet reaching ultimate fulfillment in a final world leader who exalts himself “above every so-called god” (2 Thessalonians 2:4).

• Distinguishing marks:

– “Little” at first—an underestimated, seemingly insignificant origin.

– “A mouth… of great boastfulness”—arrogant speech, public rhetoric that demeans God and exalts self (Revelation 13:5-6).

– “Eyes like the eyes of a man”—human intelligence, shrewd discernment, political savvy.

• His rise is literal, global, and hostile toward the saints (Daniel 7:21,25).

Summary:

Going forward, there will be a 2nd coming of Jesus Christ as promised and will undoubtedly come to pass.

As to the exact timing of the actual event, no one knows except the Father. But, we were given indications of a sequence of events that will happen first, before the actual return of Jesus on earth. Historically, this sequence happened, starting with;

  1. Babylonian kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar, symbolized as “head of gold “ in his dream as interpreted by God through Daniel.
  2. Medo-Persian Empire , under Cyrus, took over.; symbolized as chest and arms of silver,
  3. Greco-Macedonian Empire of Alexander the Great followed and symbolized as belly and thighs of bronze,
  4. Roman Empire that has divided into Eastern & Western divisions symbolized as legs of iron,,, fall of this Roman Empire
  5. Revived Roman Empire symbolized with 2 feet and 10 toes as feet partly of iron and partly of clay. Also portrayed with ten crowns representing 10 heads//leader/king
  6. Little horn to replace 3/10 to become the 8th head of this Beast of Revelations, with feet of iron and partly of clay
  7. Jesus Christ returns to earth snd symbolized as A stone, not cut by human hands, struck the statue on its feet, causing the entire structure to crumble and be swept away, while the stone became a great mountain filling the whole earth (Daniel 2:31-35).

Always remember that God is Almighty and the I AM, who will deliver what was planned & promised.

Isaiah 60:22
When the right time comes, I will make this happen quickly. I am the LORD!”

God bless us all. Still, while we are blessed with the knowledge about the future, we are “nothing without Love”, as in

I Corinthians 13:3https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2013&version=NIVb

If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

God bless us all and be humble with what we are blessed to know.
