“My body, my choice”?

This concept is toxic and is not new; it has been around for sometime…and even, since the “garden of Eden”. Although now, it is a prevailing philosophy among people, not only in the USA but worldwide, especially in this 2024 election season.

This post is not zooming on the controversial topic of abortion, it’s pros & cons , as there are already federal, state & local laws that adequately address this thorny subject.

No woman, in need, will be denied emergency treatment throughout the USA; otherwise, federal EMTALA VIOLATION. Also, most unplanned pregnancy can be prevented, except forced, e.g., rape/incest.

Rather, this post is about the general concept being used to justify killing innocent babies.,,hence, “my body, my choice”,

The connotation of this belief-system is that, because it is “our body”, that whatever we decide in “our interest”, is necessarily correct and should be acceptable for society to accept & condone. Falsely, and arguably, it follows that it is a God-given right and supported by the nation’s Constitution and laws., although strictly speaking, it is not.

Is this biblical, who started this and why?

To begin with, let us read from the beginning written narrative in the garden of Eden; Adam & Eve’s story

Genesis 2: 16 And the LORD God commanded him, “You may eat freely from every tree of the garden, 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”

But, Satan told them otherwise in Genesis 3:4:You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.

Genesis 3:5 For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

Notice: that God commanded not to eat even it was about “our body”; that while it was “our choice”, it was a “bad choice” eating the forbidden fruit …meaning that choices have to be made but not all choices are good and can be bad, leading to our death. God (not Satan, nor humans) defines/decides what is right or wrong.

There was nothing wrong about aspiring to “be like God knowing good and evil”,

as ultimately, this was God’s plan for us to “be like God knowing good and evil”,

but, knowing good and evil will not be through our works or efforts, for us to boast as in Ephesians 2:9; the plan is for God to achieve this knowledge for us through a process where the central role is Jesus Christ.

Another narrative in the Bible was about Nimrod and the Tower of Babel: he wanted to build this tower to “reach the heavens”. That was “his body, his choice”, good for him and for others; but again, not a good choice.

When God decided to put a stop to Nimrod’s building project, the tower had reached 5,433 cubits (almost two miles high). To put it into perspective, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, the tallest building in the world today is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai at 2,761 feet. That is only a half of one mile tall, or one-quarter of the height Nimrod had achieved. Nimrod was literally trying to reach the heavens.

Similarly, during the time of Noah (Genesis 6:1-11:32), mankind had this belief-system that whatever is right for them, was also right to do. However, God showed them, that their ways were corrupt and their thinking was wrong; hence the global inundation; the flood.

Genesis 6:5 “The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

The same message is in the narrative of Sodom & Gomorrah; the sexual perversion and abomination ( their body, their choice, whatever they do with their body) were rampant in that city; notice that even the response of Lot (his choice) to trade off his 2 virgin daughters for his 2 guests(angels) was wrong.

And, throughout history, this teaching of “my body, my choice” has been proven to be flawed. From the garden of Eden, and through Nimrod, Sodom & Gomorrah, the empires of Babylon, Medo-Persian, Greco-Macedonian, Roman, all the way forward, even today, time & again, humanity’s direction was erroneous.

No wonder, it was prophesied that God has a plan that was already revealed, as in:

  1. Mired clay to be redone by the Potter

2. “Renewing of the mind”

3. Writing the laws in their mind

In summary, it is clear from the preceding principles based on biblical proof, that;

  1. Only God, not Satan nor any human, defines/decides what is right or wrong.
  2. That, God will guide us through the holy spirit of power, towards the path to truth
  3. And that, this holy spirit of power, not a 3rd person as in Trinity doctrine, will in-dwell in our mind, to write the laws in our hearts and not in our stony heart, for renewing of our mind, for guidance, sound judgment and wisdom, as prophesied to be given by Christ himself after his resurrection, to his disciples first, then at Pentecost and through the years afterwards, in creating his body/church/ the precursor for the “kingdom of God”, spirit-composed, innumerable like the stars in heaven

God bless all of us, as we are guided by the holy spirit of power to know the truth about what is right or wrong, irrespective of “our body, our choice”. 🙏😊👍🎉🌈
